The Institute of Philosophy of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile invites post-doctoral scholarship applications for the Fondecyt (Chile) Postdoctoral Award, which opens in May 2021.
This award covers fees and operational expenses to support high-level research. The scholarship can last two or three years and allocates resources for academic trips and participation in colloquia. It also includes health benefits and moving expenses. The contest rules, updated for the 2022 postdoctoral competition, will be available here.
The Institute of Philosophy of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile has a long tradition of welcoming postdoctoral researchers and integrating them into our vibrant research environment, ensuring ideal conditions for successful research. Please see the profile of some of our postdocs here and here or here, as well as an opinion column written by one of our former postdoctoral students here and the information about the book of one of them. Currently, we have three active postdoctoral students working in different areas of philosophy (see one of their current projects here and here).
Once installed, postdoctoral students will have all the material support available to members of the University, including access to an office, and to one of the best libraries in Latin America. The successful candidate will work closely with the sponsoring researcher and other university academics in an atmosphere of intellectual rigor and freedom.
The Faculty includes professors from the USA, Argentina, Spain, Italy, France, and Chile working at the forefront of their respective fields. In addition, the Institute of Philosophy of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile participates in an extensive international research network that is supported through various exchange agreements. Postdocs will find a high-level research sponsor in the areas of ancient, modern, and contemporary philosophy, either in the analytical or continental tradition. Our particular research strengths lie in ancient philosophy, the phenomenological tradition, ethics, politics, the philosophy of science, and transcendental philosophy. Applicants can explore the profile of our academic staff here.
In collaboration with the sponsoring academic, the postdoctoral researcher may, if he/she wishes, participate in the academic activities of the University and/or take the initiative to organize events.
It is suggested that those interested prepare their application in advance, in collaboration with the sponsoring researcher, and take into account both the high level of competition and Fondecyt’s own requirements. Because a successful application requires a strong proposal in conformity with the competition rules, it will be important to review the postdoctoral competition form here.
For more information regarding the application process, please write directly to the researcher who you would like to name as your sponsor, or to the Institute’s director of research, Eric Pommier (epommier@uc.cl).
